Chapter Two: Taken
I landed on my stomach the rough floor of the van. I knew I had made a mistake flinging myself into the van without thinking it through. There was a pungent smell that tore through my nostrils. It was like someone had spilt a mix of milk and raw meat and had just left it there for years to rot. That’s all I had time to process before someone ripped me upright by my hair sending a sharp burning sensation throughout my scull.
Good job. Now you’ve done it. You’ve forced yourself into being kidnapped. I cursed myself for being so foolish.
“Well well well look what we have here,” the man sounded like he had just hit the jackpot. “Looks like a we got a two for one deal.” He grinned at me with intense brown eyes. He didn’t have a mask on like I thought he would but I could clearly see the scruff around his chin and cheeks.
I felt my heart beat pick up as I stared at his surprisingly handsome face. What the fuck is wrong with me? I just thought this psycho is handsome!
“Leave her alone,” Jack growled, his face contorted into a terrifying scowl.
“Oooo, this must be a love story,” the man cackled with a psychotic glee. “My favorite.”
“Shut up!” I snapped, ripping my head away from him. I felt Jack pull me towards him so we were towards the front of the van.
“Ah, so feisty, just how I like my girls,” the man sneered, leaning so close to my face that I could smell his musk creep into my nose and fill it with the sent of oil and freshly cut grass.
I spat on his face in disgust.
I expected him to get angry but instead he just wiped off my spit from his face and smiled. Then crawled into the front seat and started to drive. “Don’t bother to try the doors. They lock from the outside only.” He shot over his shoulder.
“What do we do?” Jack asked me in a whisper.
“We escape,” I replied, in a low tone.
“But, how?” I could tell Jack was scared from the way his voice shook slightly.
“I don’t know right now but we will figure it out and we will be okay.” I assured him. My mind drifted as we bumped along in the van. Out of all the things that have happened to me while being in the FBI being kidnapped was not one of them. I was hoping that my team had noticed the situation go down and are able to follow us so then we will be freed. For some reason I wasn’t scared though. “What’s your name?” I called to him.
“What are you doing? You’re going to get us killed!” Jack hissed through gritted teeth.
I ignored him.
“My names Matt. What’s yours, sweetheart?”
“Veronica,” I was going to lie but I figured he had done his homework on me so lying probably wasn’t the best course of action.
I could see his eyebrows go up slightly in the review mirror. “Huh, just as smart as you are beautiful aren’t you?” He smirked.
My assumption was right. Great, he’s definitely going to kill me and Jack if I wasn’t careful. I didn’t reply to him I just leaned against the side of the van for the rest of the ride.
I must have nodded off for a bit because we suddenly stopped and I was jerked to my senses. Matt parked the van and flung open his door. “Home sweet home,” he sang as he hopped out of the van and swept open the back doors of the van. “Come on out sleeping beauty and prince to be. It’s time for you to see your new home.” He chuckled when neither one of us moved.
I was frozen and I could tell Jack wasn’t about to move either.
“Fine. Don’t be easy. More fun for me.” Matt shrugged and whipped out a gun. “Get the fuck out!”
Jack leapt back against the doors for a moment then tried the handle that was locked, which only made Matt laugh.
“Oh that’s right. It’s locked. Let me get that for you.” His voice was sickeningly sweet which sent chills up my spine. He hopped out of the van and a few moments later the doors popped open.
I took in my surrounding as best as I could given the darkness. Spencer, Luke, Jazz, and Liz better have been paying attention. Otherwise, Jack and I have little to no chance of getting out of here alive. There was a thick canopy of leaves that was created by a mix of birch, pine, and weeping willow trees that surrounded the cabin. There was a big porch that a set of steep stairs lead to. I would say it looked ‘homey’ but how ‘homey’ could a serial killers house be?
“Come on, love birds, I have plans for your first dinner date.” Matt’s huge frame was suddenly in front of me. His voice was uncomfortably sweet and his smile made my blood run cold.
I decided it was best to not reply and just focus on keeping my breathing steady so I could keep my mind clear. I need to keep my focus.
“You know we’re not actually a couple, right?” Jack’s voice uttered from behind me, causing me to internally cringe.
“Don’t be silly, of course you are. I said so. I make the rules around here. The ones who don’t like the rules get sent to the dogs.” The sweet tone was replaced with a sinister arrogant tone that revealed his true personality. His lips revealed his canines in a chilling grin.
“We love following rules,” I spoke smoothly and flashed my most charming smile to ease any tension, while grabbing Jack’s hand.
“Then it’s my lucky day!” Matt chirped and took my hand in his and lead us into the cabin. “You two will fit in much better than my last participants.”
I felt the muscles in my abdomen tighten knowing that we may die inside this cabin if my team didn’t get their asses here soon. As we walked I quickly flashed Jack a look that said ‘Trust me’.
He gave the slightest of nods to convey that he understood to follow my lead.
