The moonlight made my skin glow in a silvery pale light. My usually dirty blond hair sparkled a silvery grey in the full moon light as I ran through the forest. There was a electrical static in the air that made the hair on the back of your neck dance. The air was crisp and cold as I took deep breaths of the cool fall night air. My feet pushed off the forest floor crunching on the leaves as I sped through the forest.
Suddenly, I felt arms wrap around my waist. I immediately I took a sharp breath in order to scream but there was a large hand firmly pressed over my mouth. I felt my heartbeat speed up and my breath quickened as I was thrown against a warm mass. My eyes darted around trying to see who or what had me wrapped up. I felt the arms lose slightly as I squirmed to see who grabbed me. Once I had pushed away from the lumbering dark mass 0f flesh and bone. I noticed that it seemed to be chuckling.
I firmly placed my hands on my hips, realizing my furry beast of a friend had played one of his pranks on me…again. “Borris! How many times must I tell you not to do that?!” I exclaimed, smiling, not really all that mad at him.
“At least a couple more times, my friend. You should have seen your face,” he rumbled, as his chuckles turned into full blown bell laughs.
Chuckling, I ran over to give my huge hairy friend a hug. “You always had a strange sense of humor. Now how are you, old friend? It has been a long time since we’ve last met.” I smiled burrying my face into his thick coat of fur.
He sat on the ground so I could give him a proper hug. He wrapped his huge arms around me and placed his giant paws on my back, giving me those hugs that I always love. “It has been a long month for sure.I am glad to be back by the side of my favorite companion,” he replied, happily.
Borris stood ten feet tall on his hind legs but on all fours he stood eight feet tall. His muscular lumbering mass has a thick, surprisingly soft, black coat covering his entire body. Now just looking at him he looks like a huge mix between a Kodiak bear and a gray wolf. His sheer size is intimidating enough and trust me when I first met him I was intimidated. After I helped heal him and we took turns saving each other’s lives on various occasions created a bond like no other. Borris has a heart of gold and is the most loyal friend I have ever had.
The bond we have is so unique that we just know when we need to meet and when we need each other. We never plan to meet we just know when and where to go. When we are with each other we do not need to use our words to speak. We can place what we want the other one to know in their head. That is how we convey our emotions and our plans.
As he held me I rested my head against his lower chest and could hear the beating of his heart. His thick coat engulfed my comparatively petite body protecting me from the cold fall night. Pulling my head back I could see his fangs glint in the moonlight. His eyes were glinting with silver light in anticipation for tonight’s activities.
As I was studying Borris’s face I could tell something was different by the way his eyes were looking into the distance. It was a look of determination mixed with anger. I raised my eyebrows questioning him without needing words to convey what I was asking him.
He stood so he was on all four paws. He reached his snout towards me to give my hair a gentle ruffle. Then he lowered himself to the ground and looked me straight in the eyes and gave me a look that said “Get on.”
I smiled and leapt onto the side of my friend gripping his fur so that I could pull myself up onto his back. “Run fast, my friend, the night has just started, there’s much killing to be done.” I cheered, hugging close to his body so his fur would keep me warm, as we became as fast as the wind and vanished into the night.
