The Pirate Prince (Continued)

I slung Zara’s arm over my shoulder and wrapped my arms around his torso so I could get a better grip as we started the climb to grandmother Opal’s house. I really just wanted a quiet day collecting shells and sea glass on the beach. However, I am always happy to help someone in need. He was surprisingly lighter than I intimidated which made me wonder when the last time he had a complete meal. I dug my heals into the pathway to gramother’s house and felt the sun heating my back as I pulled this unconscious man. By the time we had made it to the front door I was sweating. I managed to open the door and get Zara inside, “Gramother! Could you grab me a pitcher of water please? I found a man in desperate need of food and water.” I called as I hauled him into a chair and propped him up.

“Who is this man?” Grandmother Opal asked coming around the corner with a pitcher and a glass.

“He said his name is Zara the prince of pirates and captain of the ship Zargoza. I think he might be a bit delirious from the sun and lack of food and water.” I explained with a shrug.

She frowned for a moment, then left the room and came back with a set of fresh clothes. I don’t know how she always has exactly what is needed at the time. After handing the clothes to me she spoke, “I’ll start making lunch,” after silently handing me the pitcher and cup she walked into the kitchen lost in thought. I set the clothes on the table next to him. I filled the cup of water and gently lifted the cup to his face seeing if I could wake him. As the water hit his lips his eyes fluttered open. “Amber, where am I?” He croaked sitting up slightly while taking the water from me.”

“At my grandmother Opal’s house,” I replied, “Where are you from?”

“The seas,” he stated shortly while looking around.

Normally, I wouldn’t start talking to a stranger so easily. Especially, one saying such crazy things but somehow I felt comfortable with him. “You mentioned that you’re a captain of the ship, Zargoza, but I don’t see a ship. Where is it?” I didn’t want to overwhelm him right off the bat but I need answers before I can fully trust him.

“Probably at the bottom of the ocean by now. I was attacked by people who want my treasure. They need me in order to get to it so that’s why I thought you were going to kill me when we first met.” He explained while sipping at his water.

The prince of pirates would have hidden treasure. “Well you can stay here for however long you need. My grandmother is a fantastic cook.”

He stared at me for a long time then nodded. “You’re so kind. I shouldn’t be here long I just need a ship.”

“If you know how to build one there’s a space you can build one next to the house. My parents build their first ship here from what my grandmother has told me about them.” I explained.

“Perfect. Once I’m recovered I’ll be on my way.” He replied, with a smile just as my grandmother came out with a tray of steaming bowls of soup.

“Lunch is served,” she cheered handing everyone bowls of corn chowder.

“Wow this is great. Both of you are so kind. Thank you for taking me in.” Zara spoke inbetween of mouth fulls.

“Of course,” my grandmother replied. “There’s fresh clothes next to you and the wash room is the first door on the right down the hall in case you want to change.” She suggested with a smile.

“Water, food, clean clothes, and you aren’t trying to kill me? I’ve hit the jack pot. I am already in Amber’s debt since she found me, but now I owe you both my life.” He replied sincerely. “Otherwise, I would surely be dead by now.”
