The Conquered Beast (Continued 6)

The sound of zizzling entered my ears as I slowly regained consciousness. Opening my eyes revealed Gorgavitch sittling by the fire cooking chunks of meat. “Careful, you’re ruining the meat for yourself,” I teased, while stretching.

He turned his head to throw me a smirk. “Well, I found out the hard way that I need to eat ruined meat while in this form or I get sick.” He paused to flipp over the pieces of meat. “It should be done soon.”

I internally sighed. Figures the first kind man I’ve encountered isn’t human. I shook my head ignoring the squeezing of my heart.

“Your face says that you are thinking of something. What’s bothering you?” His voice was gently and his browser were slightly furrowed.

“It’s nothing bad. I’m trying to figure out my emotions. You think you’ve felt everything until a new feeling suddenly flips your world upside-down.” I spoke freely and honestly while studying his face.

He shifted the food onto make shift plates and handed one to me. “Emotions are something I can never figure out completely. After living for hundreds of years I thought I had experienced every emotion there is.” He paused for a moment, “Until recently that is.”

His words caught my attention. I took a few bites of food before asking, “What have you been feeling recently?”

“Many different emotions all combined into one bigger emotion.” He paused to chew his food. “I have a guess about what I’m starting to feel, but it’s confusing.”

My heart started to pound slightly in my chest. “I’ve been feeling a combination of joy, safety, and confusion but it’s like they combine into one mass of emotion that I’m scared to accept.” I started.

“Because you don’t know if they feel the same way. There’s one part of you that feels like they feel the same way but the other part of you is too scared to ask.” He continued while finishing his food.

“Because what if this feeling only belongs to me and I cannot share it?” I spoke completing his thought. I finished the last of my food as well.

“Okay, we both have something on our mind let’s tell eachother at the same time.” He replied, scooting closer to me.

“Okay, on three, one, two, three.” I counted down feeling a lump grow in my throat.

“I don’t want to scare you, but I think I’m starting to fall madly in love with you.” We spoke so perfectly in unison that we both broke into uncontrollable laughter.

“Are you sure you can’t read my thoughts, Gorgavitch?” I joked through my laughter.

“I could ask you the same question,” he shot back, laughing so hard he fell onto his back.

Before we could continue our conversation I was knocked onto his chest from an earthquake like rumble. We locked eyes for a moment then I was suddenly watching Gorgavitch grow back his scaley large body. The process happened faster than I expected, and just as he had resumed his large scaley form a grey scaley head came into view of the cave entrance followed by an even bigger scaley body. I thought that Gorgavitch was a huge creature but this creature was twice the size of him.

“GORGAVITCH! It’s been a while. Maybe too long. Is that a human you have here with you?” The deep basey voice rattled my entire body.

“Xavian! Come in! I knew you would listen to me if no one else will, old friend. This human is named, Esmerelda, and she is going to help us get the word out about Slytherix.” He introduced me to his friend.

Xavian walked up to me which shook the ground with each step. I held my ground even as the beast brought his snout so close to my face that I could feel his scales brush the tip of my nose. He exhaled which cause my hair to fly away from my face and the smell of embers entered my nose. “You humans tend to tremble at the sight of us, but you stand your ground like you could withstand being stepped on. At least you are a brave little person.” He nudged me with his nose then chuckled. “I like you.”

I let out a breath and rested a hand on his nose, “Nice to meet you.” I smiled warmly.

He straightened so he could look Gorgavitch in the eyes. “About the others…” he paused for a moment, “They seem to think that you are mistaken about Slytherix escaping, so they aren’t coming. I tried to convince them but they are old and stubborn.” His voice trailed off.

Gorgavitch’s face darkened for a moment. “It is up to us to find him then.” He announced, firmly.
