Her stormy grey eyes stare into my intense blue eyes. Her eyes speak the silent questions running through her mind. Why is he actually telling me the truth? Why did he save my life? She has to be thinking that this is all part of my plan. However, Nora, is not part of my plan at all.
Once inside the building our footsteps echoes off the tall walls. My tall lean figure easily struts in front her. I galnce over my shoulder to give her a long stare before looking forward again. She follows knowing that she can only find out if I’m telling the truth if she does what I say.
We glide down the stairs without seeing a single other person. Once the crisp evening air hit our face I notice the midnight blue van parked just outside of the building. Not an unusual sight. The buildings on this street were sparkling and clean now that they ‘renewed and updated’. Meaning they kicked thousands of families, children, people out of their homes and into the streets. Then they made living on the streets a crime so most of them ended up dead or wishing they were dead. They did this so they could build these shopping centers and big new fancy penthouses for the people who have never once known struggle.
I walked in front of her knowing without looking that her eyes never left me. I turn off the main street into a dark ally way suddenly having an idea. She follows so close that her warm hand brushes the bare skin on the back of my hand. The touch sent an unfamiliar sensation through me. However, before I could dwell on the strange sensation I saw a familiar face emerge from the shadows.
“I see you’ve brought a lady friend with you this time. That’s a first. Are you willing to share? She’s wonderfully sexy.” Bo’s voice cackles and gave Nora a wink.
“You touch her you die, old man,” I warn my dear friend. “Let’s have a chat.” I add a smirk and slip an arm around Nora’s shoulder. In response I felt her arm slip around my hips and her pointer finger hook into the waistband of my pants. It surprises me how easily she could slip into a character based off of a ten second interaction. Why does this feel so natural?
As we step through the door we are greated with a mix of smells. There’s the smoky smell of cigars and weed mixed with the bitter smell of alcohol. The air is filled with a haze that makes the air thick and heavey.
“Go right on back to the usual room. I’ll be with you in a minute.” Bo’s voice cuts through the music.
“What the hell are you trying to pull, Zizi?” She hisses as we walk to the room.
“You want proof that the people you work for are not who you think they are. I’m giving it to you. Just trust me.” I whisper back, opening the wooden door for her.
