The room that greets us as we enter has a booth that’s big enough for four people. I stroll over the the booth and slide myself into my usual spot. I discretely feel around the leather seat until I found the hole. I glance over at Nora to see if she notices what I’m doing. She was busy doing her own scan of this new space to her. I feel the cool metal of the hilt of my dagger that I’ve kept here for safe keeping. I slip it into my coat pocket.
Bo barges into the room with two pitchers of what I can only assume to be a mixture of whatever hard alcohol that was running low at the bar. He slams the two pitchers down on the table with three glasses and settles into the bench in front of us. “Do you have a name sweetheart or nickname?” He croons directing his words at Nora while practicly drooling over her.
She leans forward over the table slightly causing her v-cut shirt to billow out just enough to show enough of her breasts to make Bo’s eyes light up. “I’m not in the business of names. I’m in the business of pleasure for the right price of course,” she flutters her dark eyelashes at him for emphasis.
Damn she’s good. Too good. I purposely didn’t tell her anything because I didn’t want anything to sound scripted. I could tell that she already has Bo wrapped around her finger. Perfect. He is way more agreeable when he’s distracted by a beautiful woman.
“How much is he paying you? I’ll pay you double even triple what he’s giving you.” Bo questions clearly loving this situation.
She’s silent for a moment as she let’s a slow smirk crawl over her lips. “Enough to keep me from taking bribes from others,” she gave a wink then adds, “What’s in the pitchers? Something good I hope.”
“A little bit of everything with a dash of why the hell not. It’s my specialty drink.” He replies with a chuckle while pouring us our drinks.
“Thank you, my friend,” I reply while taking a sip of the intense alcoholic drink. “But you know I didn’t come here to show off my newest friend.” I start giving him a look.
“You want information about them. Don’t you?” Bo raises an eyebrow then slugs down his drink and pours another.
“Anything you can give me,” I respond with a smile as I take a sip of the drink.
“I’ll see what I have in the back,” he assures me while getting up from the booth to make his way into a separate room.
I feel her lean into my shoulder and whisper “How credible is this guy?” I turn my gentle blue eyes and take a long hard look into her grey eyes. I notice small specks of green in them. Our faces are inches away from each other. Focus. I reminded myself and spoke softly.
“I trust him with my life, and he has never lead me wrong in my life. I’ve saved his ass more than a few times in his long life.” I hover for a moment longer than I should have.
After a moment the corner of her lips sore upwards in a smile so bright that it made me smile. “I trust you. My training is telling me that I should never have left the building with you, but my gut says I can trust you.” She utters in a soft sweet tone.
“I’m inclined to trust you as well. As much as one can under these circumstances.” I breath back. Suddenly, the sound of a door creeking open took my gaze away. I see Bo walking through the door with a stack of papers in his arms.
“Here’s what I got on them.” Bo strains as he slams the stack of papers on the table in front of us.
At the very top it said K.N.O.C.K.O.U.T. which stands for something too long and insignificant to be worth remembering. I glance up to Bo and ask. “Do you mind if I take some time to go over these in private?” Patting the large piles of paper.
“Of course. I’ll make sure no one disturbs you. Will you be needing your lady friend or could I borrow her for a few hours?” He smirks.
I slide my arms around her waist and clasp my hands together resting them on her stomach. Her heart is racing so fast that I can feel the rhythm through her torso. This was the only indication of her true emotions. I can understand why K.N.O.C.K.O.U.T. loves her so much. She is the best agent they have by far. Maybe she will change her mind after finding out the truth. Doubt it. They are known for their brutal brainwashing techniques. “I always need my lady friend. Go find your own.” I wave my hands at him to tell him to get out.
“Fine, fine, fine. I’ll leave you to your business and your lady friend.” He calls out just before he shuts the door behind him.
I feel her relax as the door shuts. “Is he always that-” she starts to ask then trails off for a moment.
“Flirtatious?” I suggest knowing what she means. She nods. “Only to attractive women,” I chuckle while picking up a pile of papers. Before I start to read I feel like I’m being watched I look across the room to see a single video camera. Figures Bo would have this place filled with cameras. I bet my life that he’s watching us waiting, hoping for a show. He will get suspicious if we don’t at least keep with our story.
I give a side look to her as I start flipping through the pages of information on K.N.O.C.K.O.U.T. as soon as she looks at me I say quietly, “Did you notice that there’s a camera pointed at us?”
“As soon as we walked in,” she replies. “That’s the only reason why I haven’t looked through any of the paper. It would be kinda weird looking if you started letting your lady friend look over them with you. Gotta stay in character.” She gave me a smirk and a wink.
“Fantastic, so you must have an idea about where my plan is going?” I reply calmly, giving her a grin.
“Give him a show to distract him to sell our story?” She guesses on the first try.
“That’s the idea of it if you are comfortable with that.” I confirm while knowing this decision is risky.
“If you can find me proof that K.N.O.C.K.O.U.T. isn’t what I thought it is. I’ll make sure your friend gets the peaking Tom show that he’s hoping for.” She spoke with a forced confidence that was betrayed by the slightest of trembles in her bottom lip. Wow I’m really about to turn her world upside down. I would feel bad but she asked for enlightenment.
“Careful what you offer, Nora. The truth can be brutal.” I warn resuming my search for the information I need.
