Nora calmly takes a long sip of Bo’s special cocktail. I could tell by the slight wrinkle of her nose that she was not impressed but finishes her glass anyways. “I do what I have to in order to get the job done. I would not have told your friend that I’m in the business of pleasure if I wasn’t confident in my ability to convince him of that. He does not peg me as the type to take kindly to people like me.” She leans back in the booth discretely looking over the papers.
“You’re good a reading people. Makes sense why you work for them.” I mutter while my eyes catch what I need. Yes. Finally this is the proof I need. The heading on the piece of paper says as follows.
K.N.O.C.K.O.U T. Kicks Out Thousands of People From Their Homes to Make Way for The Newest Penthouses and Shopping Mall.
The article goes on to talk about how K.N.O.C.K.O.U.T. left the people starving and dying on the streets with no where to go. Now they go around arresting the ones who they left behind. I make sure to hide my actions from the camera watching us as I turn to face her. I lean towards her and whisper, “What did K.N.O.C.K.O.U.T tell you they did with the people who were living in this area before they updated things?”
“That they rehomed all of them and that’s all we needed to know,” she replies easily slightly furrowing her eyebrows catching sight of the article. “What’s that?”
“My evidence that they have been lying to you.” I state firmly but sincerely, gently touching her shoulder.
She looks at me then takes the paper and silently reads it while I sift through more papers. Setting aside the important ones.
“How could they?” I hear her utter. “Is there more?” I can hardly recognize her voice she sounds genuinely upset over learning that she has been working for liers. I could see how round her eyes got by the time she was finished reading everything
“Many,” I answer gesturing to the stack of papers next to me. “I’ll let you see them when we are not being watched. I would need a distraction of sorts if you get my gist.” I slowly tugg the article out of her hands and add it back to my pile. Putting my arm behind her.
“I just have one more question,” she spoke slowly scooting closer to me. The look in her eyes makes my heart squeeze for a split second longer than it should have then pulses quicker as she comes closer. “I’m not going to end up on some sketchy website because your friend decides he’s short on cash, right?” She slowly shrugs off her black jacket revealing her tight fitting teal colored v-neck.
“No, you won’t. My friend is a creep but he knows not to fuck with me or my friends.” I feel my body start to pulse as she slowly runs her palm up my thigh. Causing me to almost lose my focus. This was not part of my plan. How do I handle this? I’ll let her lead.
She smiles and crawls into my lap and puts her back against the table so her back is to the camera. Causing me to sharply inhale as her chest bounces into mine. As she settles I feel the cushion of her butt press into me and her thighs wrap around my legs. I can’t help the boner from growing. I froze staring at this beautiful woman in front of me. Is this a trap? Is she just a really good actress? Maybe. Only time will tell. She leans into my chest to whisper in my ear. “Just so you know the only reason this is happening is because I don’t want your friend to get suspicious. You have my permission to touch me enough to convince your friend that I’m not lying about what I do for a living.”
“Of course,” I hear myself speak. I haven’t really been close to a woman since Viv- but I could not deny the chills that cascade down my body as she speaks to me. I manage to bring my hands up to rest around her waist. My brain is screaming at me that this is how I ruin my plan but that does not stop the following events from happening.
Her soft lips touch the sensitive skin around my neck. She brushes her lips across my jaw line. She hesitates for a split second before kissing me on the lips. I melt into her and respond deepening our kiss. Before I know it I’m laying on my back, and she has her hands up my shirt feeling my chest. I pull back just long enough to get out, “Hold on.”
She let me sit up before wrapping her arms around me. I lift her up and shift so my body is blocking the stack of papers and hers is on the table. I manage to stuff the papers into my inner jacket pocket before the knock interrupts us. It was not just any knock though it was the warning knock that Bo and I use whenever we need to let the other one know to bail.
“We need to move now. That’s the only warning we are going to get.” We gather our things and fly out the back door.
“Who are we running from?” She asks me.
“I can only assume it’s your two partners looking for us.” I groan, trying to clear my buzzing head.
“We need to tell them what we have found,” she states as we walk into the allyway.
“That’s too dangerous. It’s bad enough that I told you. I shouldn’t be trusting you like I am but it’s too late now.” I reply quickly coming out of the ally and onto the street with the midnight blue van on it.
“But I trust them with my life. I know they would believe the evidence that we have.” She persists, grabbing my hand.
“The more people who know the more likely they will find out and destroy the evidence,” I counter.
“The more people who know the truth and are willing to stand up for it means we have more people on our side, and the more people who are on our side means the less people they have.” She shoots back. Then nods towards the midnight blue van. “Plus, it’s not my partners who your friend was warning us about. Hop in.” She turns and struts towards the van.
Now it’s my turn to follow. Of course they would be in the one van we see today. I’m not surprised that she kept it from me though. It’s smart to have back up plans. I can’t tell if she truly believes me or is just pulling me along until she’s able to trap me in prison. My gut tells me to trust her so I calmly follow her to the van.
The door swings open as soon as we get near the side door.
“What the hell were you thinking?” James yells at Nora as soon as she approaches the open door.
“I was the only one thinking while you two were rolling around on the floor.” She snaps. “I have information for you two.”
“He could have killed you!” Oliver exclaims as soon as the door shut behind us.
“Yep but instead he saved my life. Are you done acting like my father and ready to hear information that affects our life?” She sasses clearly not impressed with being treated like a child.
They nod after shooting me a nasty look. I clear my throat and pull out the stack of papers and hand it to them to let them sift through the contents.
“How do we know this is real?” James questions after a few minutes of silence.
If you are willing I will show you where all those people are ‘rehomed’ but I need to know I’m not putting them in danger by doing so. How can I trust you?” I reply leaning against the wall.
“You only know what you’ve been told by others. I know the truth because I’ve experienced it and still live it.” I speak smoothly covering my nerves. What am I doing? Is this plan of mine still going to work?
“I’ll trust you once. After that trust is broken I’ll kill you without hesitation.” James states slowly after exchanging a look with Nora.
“I don’t. You’re the reason my parents are dead.” Oliver who had been quiet up until now sounds like he won’t change his mind.
“Oliver he did not pull the trigger that killed your parents.” Nora starts to reassure him.
“I don’t care! It was one of his followers,” he exclaims pulling out his weapon.
I have followers? I’m not even a leader I just fight for the poor. The only people that any of us have killed are ones who attack us after barging into our homes. “Oliver, killing me will not bring back your parents. I can’t know how you feel about the lose of your parents. I only know how it feels to lose mine after K.N.O.C.K.O.U.T. kicked us to the curb and murdered my parents in front of me.” I speak carefully knowing that my words may not stop him from shooting me but at least it’s the truth.
“Fine. Show us first. Then I’ll decide whether you die or not.” Oliver growls putting his weapon away.
“Fair enough,” I reply with a smile. Perfect. After the slight hiccup with Nora my plan is back on track.
