In the past I have talked about some of my truly horrible experiences with working with the public. Now it’s time to talk about the truly amazing people I’ve come across while working with the public.
I’ll narrow it down to my top three amazing experiences.
3) At my first job I was seating a couple at a booth we had. After seating them they nicely asked if I was going to be their server as well. I politely informed them that I was not but one would be with them shortly. I later found out that the couple had paid for two different table’s meals. I later found out that they try to do things like that at least once a week.
2) My first job was at a local pizza restaurant and it had an open kitchen so people could watch their pizza’s being made. During the summers we would get extremely busy and the line of tickets never seemed to end. There was one time where this family of four had a table that was in front of the kitchen area. The two young kids were very happy watching the pizzas being made and the parents were also having a fun time. After they had paid their bill and were getting ready to leave the father walked up to each of the four people working in the kitchen and handed them each $10.00. The man wouldn’t take the money back when they tried assuring him that he didn’t have to do that. He just said ‘Hard work deserves more money.’
1) One of the nicest people I’ve come across was an old coworker of mine from my first job. We worked together for a little while and would have casual conversation in passing. There was a situation with a terrible customer that left me in tears (I wrote about it in a previous week). I was hiding out back in the dishwashing area trying to pull myself together before facing the mob of customers outside. I was wiping my face with some paper towels when I felt a gentle touch on my shoulder and I looked up to see one of the dishwashers holding a glass of water out to me. He didn’t ask if I was okay he just sat there for about five minutes with me listening to what happened. It was a simple gesture that made it possible for me to face the rest of that shift. I’ll never forget the simple act of kindness that made a world of difference.
Thank you all for reading! This is another true story. Stay tuned for next week!
